Obituary of Eugene Consalus
Eugene R. "Gene" Consalus, 80, of Columbia, Mo., former longtime Clinton resident, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 at a Columbia hospital. He was born January 18, 1927 in Clinton to John Eugene Consalus and Mabel (Russell) Consalus. On June 9, 1950 he married the former Julia Ann Atkins in Clinton. She survives of the home.
Gene began working with his father at the Consalus Funeral Home in 1948. He retired from the funeral home in 1994. Following retirement, Gene and Julie enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona, and playing the saxophone in various bands. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton; Past President of the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce; Past President of the Clinton Rotary Club; Past President of the Kansas City Unit of the Airstream Travel Club; was a former board member of the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital and was President of Clinton United Way and the Clinton Camp Fire Council. Gene was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Ann "Julie" Consalus of the home; a son John A. Consalus and his wife Liz of Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Linda G. Sharp and her husband Mike of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Karen J. Price and her husband Ed of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; and Susan Miller and her husband Lewis of Boonville, Mo.; six grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Betty Jane Consalus Honts in 1978.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, in care of the funeral home.
