Obituary of Kathleen Virginia Price

Kathy Price, a retired business executive, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 at the age of 87 in Naples, FL. She was born June 23, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA. From an early age, her intelligence and tenacity showed. In high school, she was known as a crackerjack debater and won a full scholarship to Mount Mercy, a small women’s college now known as Carlow University. There she and her debate team defeated West Point in the East Coast championships. She wrote, produced, and starred in a radio series based on her family’s home life, called “Morning Noon and Night.” She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduate school, she came to Chicago to work at Sears Roebuck and Co. the largest retailer in the U.S. at the time. At a mixer, she met Don Price, her late husband, a warm and gregarious man who enthusiastically supported her career. However, when they attended his company parties, they agreed not to mention that she worked. Among her career milestones at Sears, she earned a Clio award in 1970 for television commercials she produced, and later she rose through the ranks to become the first female National Merchandising Manager in Sears history. Kathy was someone who found success in her career through discipline, savvy and creativity. Outside of work, Kathy and her family spent summers at Diamond Lake in Michigan where she enjoyed playing bridge and participating in a book club. She had a good sense of humor and loved to meet up with friends at local social events. In her later years, she contributed her time and expertise to raising scholarships for students who demonstrated talent in fashion design. Kathy is survived by her son Joseph Evan Price (Nicole) and sister Lynn Haney Trowbridge (John). She also leaves behind three granddaughters, Jillian, Adrienne and Amanda and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John J. Haney and Katherine V. Wholey, her husband Donald J. Price, sisters Constance H. Johnston and Joyce H. Williamson and her daughter Courtney Price Korey (Howard). To keep everyone healthy, a memorial service in Chicago will be planned after Covid subsides. Kathy will be buried next to her husband in the Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Englewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., just prior to the graveside at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Gifts of remembrance, honoring her late daughter, Courtney, may be made to: The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, tnbcfoundation.org/support-us/donate. Or these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
