Obituary of William E. Harrison, Sr.

William E. “Bill” Harrison, Sr., 77, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Saturday morning, July 11, 2020 at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. Bill was born October 9, 1942 in Clinton, Mo., the son of Grover O. Harrison, Jr., and Daisy Maxine (Simmons) Harrison. Following his graduation from Clinton High School, he enlisted into the Navy. He served during the Vietnam War as a Yeoman Third Class on the carrier USS Hancock CVA-19. He was discharged at Alameda, California. Following his military service he worked as a dock supervisor for Consolidated Freightways in Kansas City, Mo., for 32 years. He returned to his hometown of Clinton, Mo., following his retirement, where he enjoyed volunteering and serving his faith. He was saved in 2000 and was a practicing member of the Baptist faith. His faith was of the utmost importance to him. He enjoyed fishing and his firearms. Bill was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 15026, also the American Legion, Post 999. He served 9 years with the Honor Guard, serving as Commander of the Honor Guard. He is survived by nieces and nephews, among them, his niece, Jana Collins of Overland Park, Kansas; his dear friend, Sharon Green of Clinton, Mo. He is also survived by his beloved cat Tom, who has been lovingly adopted by the Umland family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Ormand Gene Harrison, Robert Lee Harrison and Michael Eugene Harrison. Memorial Graveside service and interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Englewood Cemetery. Military services will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1894, Clinton.
