Obituary of Betty Sue Crooks

Betty Sue (Scott) Crooks, 76, of Leeton, Missouri, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Friday morning, May 15, 2020 at her home. She was known for her sweet and caring nature and everyone who knew her or received any of her baking was touched by her kindness. Betty was born October 22, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Uel Ray and Lizzie Susanna (Brown) Scott. She was united in Christian marriage on April 26, 1964, to Alvin Bruce Crooks at Drakes Chapel United Methodist Church. Betty graduated from Clinton High School, Class of 1961, Clinton, Missouri. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri. She was a member of the Shawnee Mound Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was the pianist for many years. She was active in the Shawnee 4-H Club as a sewing leader, as well as assisting her own kids in their many 4-H projects through the years. Betty was a member of the Shawnee Mound Ladies Aide and the Henry County Home Extension Club. Betty enjoyed spending time with her large family, making it her life’s purpose to care for them. She enjoyed needle work, crafting and making t-shirt quilts for each grandchild as they graduated from high school. Attending school events and sports activities of her children and grandchildren was always a priority for her. Betty accepted Christ as her Savior early in her life. Throughout her adult years, Betty fought cancer five different times. She was a warrior both physically and spiritually. Because of her faith, resilience, and perseverance, many people, including her family were blessed. Betty is survived by her husband, Alvin, of the home; five children, Doug (Susan) Crooks, Leeton, Mo., Cheryl (Howard) Early, Leeton, Mo., Emily (Steve) Gruenert, Brazil, Indiana, Fonda Williams, Blue Springs, Mo., Greg (Aubrei) Crooks, Warrensburg, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Taylor and Jordan Crooks, Brittany (Cohen) Kelsey, Mallory (Layne) Robinson, Kennedy and Chezney Early, Jennifer (Adam) Fox, Mackenzi and Madison Gruenert, Lizzy (Garrett) Ogle and Kendall Williams, and Sloane and Josie Crooks; 5 great-grandchildren, Avrie, Tyler and Pierce Fox and Stockton and Stadler Kelsey. She was preceded in death by her parents who loved and adored her. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Shawnee Mound Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Murlin Anstine and Reverend Mary Ann Townsend officiating. Burial will be in the Shawnee Mound Cemetery. To accommodate for social distancing but enable the community to join in the celebration of Betty's life, funeral services will be streamed live at the time of the service from Betty's Tribute Page at www.bradleyhadley.com. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Golden Valley Memorial Hospice, and these donations may be mailed to or left in care of the funeral home.
