Obituary of Douglas L. Baker

Douglas Lynn Baker was born January 31, 1938 in Bloodland, Missouri, the son of Willard Baker and Sylvia June (Brown) Baker. He passed away on Monday morning, May 11, 2020, at the age of 82, at his home in Florence, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents and his two older sisters June Cooper (Baker) from Licking, Missouri, and Jewell Decker (Baker) from Marshfield, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Wanda Katherine Robbins of Edgar Springs, Missouri on January 31, 1964. She survives of the home. Douglas grew up in Bloodland, Missouri which is now part of modern-day Fort Leonard Wood. Douglas held numerous positions on Fort Leonard Wood and with Phelps County Highway Department before he retired in 1997. He spent his entire life training and hunting many numerous breeds of hunting dogs. He fished many rivers and lakes all throughout the state and he was a gifted storyteller recounting details of each hunt or fishing trip whether it happened yesterday or decades ago. Douglas attended the Pentecostal Church in St. Roberts Missouri and accepted Christ in 1994. He was baptized in the Gasconade river. Since that time, he added to his favorite stories to tell and he told people about a man named Jesus! He is survived by his wife, Wanda; sons David Lynn Baker of Monticello, Kentucky and Joseph Douglas Baker and wife Ronda of Lyons, Michigan, and daughters Robbin Lynne Heberlie and husband Brian, of Springfield, MO., and Alesia Joline Ashley and husband Myron of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.; eight grandchildren, David Baker, Dawson Baker, Lynnsey Copeland (Kory), Brady Heberlie (Erin), Madison Heberlie, Cody Ashley, Savannah Shipp (Jacob), and Cooper Ashley; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Kade, Coralie, Adelaide and Eritrea. He was welcomed to his heavenly home by his parents, his two sisters, and several life-long hunting friends. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2020 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. To accommodate for social distancing but enable the community to join in the celebration of Doug's life, services will be streamed live at the time of the service from Doug's Tribute Page at www.bradleyhadley.com. Friends may call Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery.
