Obituary of John E. DeLozier
John Edward DeLozier, 69, of Clinton, Missouri passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital.
John was born July 26, 1949 in Clinton, MO, as the only child to Lewis DeLozier and Marjory (Eaglesfield) DeLozier. He attended Clinton High School and graduated with the class of 1967. John was an alumni of Central Missouri State University, now University of Central Missouri, receiving his Bachelor's of Education in 1971 and his Master's of Education in 1972.
He worked as a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Leesville R-9 in the mid-1970's where his students knew him as "Mr. D". For a few years in the 1970's, he also worked as a certified surgical technologist at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital. In 1973, he began working at Kansas City Power & Light. He was a loyal employee there for 33 years and retired as an electrician at the Montrose Station in 2006. Following retirement, he worked as a student aide and maintenance worker at the Calhoun School District in Calhoun, MO, and was adored by staff and students that knew him as "Mr. John".
John had a passion for helping people and volunteering his time. He and Joy served their church, Northeast Baptist Church, by leading services at Jefferson Gardens and Glendale Gardens twice per month for the past 19 years. He dearly loved the senior residents and longed to see them persevere in their Christian walk as they were in their last earthly days. He also volunteered countless hours at the Calhoun Early Childhood Center and cherished the little children and staff who came through those doors. He was happiest when he was serving others. In 1981, John married his wife, Joy. Together, they have four children, Stephanie Hegarty, (Mark), Shawnee, Kansas, Christian DeLozier (Sibyl), Clinton, MO, Jill Ragan (Matt), Clinton, MO and Danielle Peacock, (Travis), Richmond Hill, Georgia. He was very proud of his children and was an especially proud "Papa John" to his grandchildren, Jackson Cooper, Madalynn Ragan, Shelby Ragan, Olivia Cooper, Hadley DeLozier, Hollis DeLozier, Taylor Hegarty and Nicholas Hegarty; and countless extended family members who will miss him.
The most important part of John's life was his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. John was eternally grateful that Christ paid the penalty for his sin on the cross and rose again so that he could live with and worship Him forever. John's family grieves with hope knowing that our Dad is worshipping Jesus Christ right now and for all eternity. John wanted God to receive all the glory in his life, and now in his death. "For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!" Job 19:25-27.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Northeast Baptist Church, 619 East Lincoln Street, Clinton, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., just prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date in the Tebo Cemetery, Tightwad, MO. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Tebo Cemetery Association, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.
