Obituary of James Wasson
James George "Jim" Wasson, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Calhoun, MO, died Monday morning, July 23, 2018 at the Monterey Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Independence, MO.
Jim was born December 27, 1941 in St. Louis, MO, the son of James W. Wasson and Mary Marie (Hanock) Wasson. He graduated from Ritenour High School in St. Louis, and studied at Washington University, St. Louis.
He married Joyce Ketchum of Calhoun, MO, in 1963. To this union was born one daughter, Lee Ann. Joyce preceded him in death on February 18, 2001.
Jim worked in the clothing manufacturing industry as a technical service representative. He specialized in snap application machines. His career took him to many areas of the United States and Mexico. He retired in 2002 and made Calhoun, MO his full-time home. He served as Calhoun Alderman for the North side for several years. He worked hard to keep the areas around town clean and presentable. He also served on the Community Betterment and Emergency Preparedness Committees.
Jim was a talented "Mr. Fix-It" and "Duct Tape Master." He enjoyed projects around his house and maintaining his property, as well as helping friends with various repairs and projects. He was a talented musician, playing the organ, accordion, and numerous percussion instruments.
For the past 15 years he atteded the Norfleet Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, with his friend, Donna Quillin.
Surviving are his daughter, Lee Ann Wasson, St. Louis, MO; long-time companion, Donna Quillin, Kansas City, MO; one sister, Elaine Schlottmann and husband Alan, Henderson, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Judy Veuleman, Many, Louisiana, Carol Jean Ketchum, Clinton, MO, and Nancy Ketchum and husband Len Cocke, Mimbres, New Mexico; nephews, John Veuleman, Shreveport, LA and Billy Veuleman and wife Sandra, Panama City, Florida; and numerous cousins and friends.
In addition to his wife Joyce, he was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Syble Smith Ketchum; brother-in-law, Bill Veuleman; and nephew, James Michael Veuleman.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., just prior to the funeral service. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Calhoun Cemetery, Calhoun, MO. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, 2316 East Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64132, or these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
