Flossie Jean Wharton, 84, of Chilhowee, Missouri passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday morning, October 27, 2020. She was born May 12, 1936 in Windsor, Mo., the daughter of Auda Campbell and Flossie (Baker) Campbell. Jean married Robert Alonzo "Bob" Wharton in Chilhowee, Mo., on September 14, 1957. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2008. She and Bob owned and operated the Wharton Grocery Store in Chilhowee for 27 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Chilhowee Baptist Church, enjoyed going to garage sales, reading and getting her hair done. She also had a booth in the Those Were The Days consignment store in Warrensburg, Mo., selling her jewels that she would find at the garage sales. Surviving are one son, Robert Mack Wharton, Chilhowee, Mo.; three grandchildren, Joshua Brooks, Dusty Wharton and Rusty Wharton; eight great-grandchildren, Felicia, Kyle, Hunter, Dalton, Caleb, Carly, Davey, Rebel; and one brother, Dean Campbell, Chilhowee, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Dale Wharton; daughter, Sandra J. "Sandy" Shields; grandson, Kyle Andrew Brooks; and one sister, Wanda Knoles. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Chilhowee Baptist Church. Friends may call from noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in the Carpenter Cemetery, Chilhowee, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Chilhowee Baptist Church, and may be left in care of the funeral home.
